Our 3rd Annual GTI Symposium was another successful event, uniting academia and industry. This year was unique thanks to a partnership with California Life Sciences and CIRM, which added a complementary day focused on commercial considerations.
On September 16, 2026, the Gene Therapy Initiative (GTI) at UC San Diego brought together more than 370 attendees from academia, industry, patient advocacy, and the broader cell and gene therapy community for our 3rd Annual Gene Therapy Initiative Symposium at the Salk Institute.
On September 17, California Life Sciences [CLS] and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine [CIRM] held their Cell and Gene Therapy Symposium — an annual event that rotates among major California cities — in the same location. Among the attendees were several from the prior day’s GTI Symposium, with many new senior executives and company decision-makers also in attendance.
The consecutive events were designed to give attendees an authentic bench-to-bedside experience. Across two days, attendees explored cutting-edge advances in cell and gene therapy—from ex vivo and in vivo technologies and innovative safety models to manufacturing, patient delivery, commercialization, and the challenges of translating promising discoveries into therapies for patients.
Included scientific talks, a rare disease panel, poster presentations, and networking opportunities.
Featured speakers from academia, industry, government agencies, and patient advocates.
