Our Mission
Mapping the human genome was one of the most significant research breakthroughs of the last century. Heralded by world leaders and the public upon its completion, the project cost billions of dollars and revolutionized modern biology. And while the full human genome sequence is an important reference that has accelerated our understanding of immune system function, diseases diagnosis, and even the inner workings of our bodies, there have yet to be any significant medical therapies derived from this knowledge. At UC San Diego, we are out to change that through the Gene Therapy Initiative.
Our mission is to redefine human health and wellness by leveraging the power of the human genome to pursue transformational therapies and cures for rare diseases.
